Finished reading: A Very Typical Family by Sierra Godfrey πIt’s set in Santa Cruz, CA, where I lived in the 1980s, but ultimately is just a romance novel. Though it is unintentionally thought-provoking about incarceration and the difference that white privilege makes.
Finished reading: The Last Palace by Norman Eisen πinteresting book about Prague and Czech history from the POV of Obamaβs ambassador who is also the son of a Czech refugee.

Finished reading: Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt πA silly novel. The best character is the small town on the Washington coast.
Still reading: Clarissa by Samuel Richardson πI think I started reading this in January and have been diligently making progress every week but I’m still only a third of the way through! At this point, I’ll keep going just so I can say I finished it, hopefully, within the same year I started it.
Finished reading: The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield πSo fun. An intentionally gothic tale, good characters.

Finished reading: The Terraformers by Annalee Newitz πI loved it, especially the first part. By the third part, it was getting a bit heavy-handed but its intentions were admirable. Dystopian science fiction, with a strong dash of hope.
Finished reading: Outline by Rachel Cusk πInteresting writing with mostly unlikeable characters.

Finished reading: Painting Time by Maylis de Kerangal π I loved this novel so much that I immediately began re-reading it to catch more of the nuance. Three young people go to painting school to learn trompe l’oeil. We all learn about observation.
Finished reading: The Story So Far by Jane Eklund πErudite fiction about a relationship between a young woman and an older female author. Thought-provoking about the ways this might be the same as, or different from, an older man and a young woman.
