Finished reading: Housekeeping: A Novel by Marilynne Robinson πBeautiful writing. Perhaps an unreliable narrator? I believe that yes, someone should have intervened to prevent two people from becoming the lifelong unhoused.
Finished reading: My Century: A Novel by GΓΌnter Grass π My continuing reading project into German/Polish post-WWII history. This one is quite accessible and informative without being pedantic.

Finished reading: All for Nothing by Walter Kempowski π I’m reading books about Germany and Poland during and after WW2. This one is especially brutal and especially good. It’s the mundaneness of the banal cruelty that is giving me nightmares and that’s the point.

Finished reading: Bridge of Sighs by Richard Russo π I loved most of this novel but felt that it fell apart at the end. Even so, it’s a contender for Great American Novel.

Finished reading: The Secret to Superhuman Strength by Alison Bechdel π So fun. I loved this book. Read it twice over and expect to re-read it many times.
Finished reading: What I Found in a Thousand Towns: A Traveling Musician’s Guide to Rebuilding America’s Communities-One Coffee Shop, Dog Run, and Open-Mike Night at a Time by Dar Williams π Definitely an interesting and thought-provoking read. This book provides support and some guidance for anyone who has ever wanted to build more community in their town.
Finished reading: The City We Became by N.K. Jemison π A very fun read, highly recommended, especially if you are fond of the city of New York. I’m looking forward to the next books in this trilogy.
Finished reading: Remote Control by Nnedi Okorafor π A fun and fast read with great characters.
Finished reading: Writers and Lovers by Lily King π Oh, I really liked this book. At first, I was not grabbed by it. But as it went on, the more I loved it. The author does a masterful job of centering the book on women, rather than having everything be a reflection of men.

Finished reading: Gravity’s Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon π Horrible book. Sexist, racist, drug-addled ravings. Surely a book that has not stood the test of time. And why did so many male mid-century writers think that child rape was a good and sexy topic? My level of disgust is difficult to communicate.

Finished reading: Apeirogon by Colum McCann πAbsolutely 5 stars. Lyrical, beautiful, and deeply provoking. So much to think about regarding Israel and Palestine. But I didn’t know this was the book’s topic when I began it.

Finished reading: Change Agent by Daniel Suarez π A wild ride, and frightening in its vision of a completely genetically-modified future, but also very interesting. Not great literature but not trash either.

Finished reading: The Secret to Superhuman Strength by Alison Bechdel πTotally loved it and immediately re-read it after finishing it. It’s even better the second time.
