Finished reading: Birnam Wood by Eleanor Catton πŸ“šquite good. A Shakespearean ending that takes your breath away but also makes sense as a commentary on our late-capitalism world.

Finished reading: The Years by Annie Ernaux πŸ“šThis took me a while to get through but in the end, I agree that it’s a masterpiece. It manages to be the story of the past 60 years for a white, educated woman and yet general, too. She captures so much in so few words. Translated from the French.

Finished reading: Loot by Tania James πŸ“šAn excellent novel, set in India and France, touches on history, colonialism, growing up bi-racial, and more heavy topics while also being an enjoyable read. Highly recommended.

Currently reading Resist by Lee Schneider @leeS πŸ“š

Finished reading: Homegoing: A novel by Yaa Gyasi πŸ“šDefinitely worth reading. It contains scenes of abuse and violence but only in service to the story and the history. Half-sisters in the 1700s, one stays in Africa, one is enslaved and taken to America. It’s the story of all the generations to now.

Finished reading: Victory City by Salman Rushdie πŸ“šWorth reading. A good tale about how the historian gets to tell the history. Plenty to think about.

Finished reading: Of Time and Turtles by Sy Montgomery πŸ“šWhat a sweet, delicious, thought-provoking book. My attitude toward turtles has been changed from mostly indifferent to “Wow, Turtles!” This book will also serve as a good history of what pandemic time was like.

Finished reading: Women Talking by Miriam Toews πŸ“šsuch a strange book. I’m thinking I should watch the movie.

Finished reading: The Shepherd’s Crown by Terry Pratchett πŸ“šthe last Disc World book, sweet and poignant for that reason.

Finished reading: Thornhedge by T. Kingfisher πŸ“šI like the author’s writing style and interesting takes on redoing fairy tales such as Sleeping Beauty. But I was disturbed that the villain here is what sounds like a severely autistic child.

Finished reading: The Country of the Blind by Andrew Leland πŸ“šHighly recommended. We’re all on the path to a disability. This book talks about how to approach using this knowledge, based on the author’s gradual ascent toward blindness. Lots of good information about the blind community, too.
