Finished reading: Parsons’ Mill by Timothy Lewontin ๐Ÿ“šnice but dated non-fiction about a young man who decides to take a job at a small lumber mill in Vermont. Good descriptions of a world that no longer exists.

Currently reading: Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner ๐Ÿ“šOur next Library book club read.

Finished reading: The Ministry of Time by Kaliane Bradley ๐Ÿ“šFun, time-traveling novel with a bunch of twists. Provides a surprising amount of information about 18th-century Arctic explorers, too.

Finished reading: Solito by Javier Zamora ๐Ÿ“šSomewhat harrowing story of a 9-year-old’s journey from Guatemala to the US in 1999. Well-written and worth reading.

Finished reading: The Fragile Threads of Power by V ๐Ÿ“š I enjoyed the first trilogy set in this world, but I’m going to stop with this new series. Weirdly violent, and just more of the same in terms of plot and characters.

Finished reading: The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett ๐Ÿ“šWeird, fun, sci-fi about a world where the magic is based on plants and fungi.

Finished reading: The Bear by Andrew Krivak ๐Ÿ“š A short novel that never grabbed me. I still don’t know what it’s about or why it was written. It was our Library book group selection so I’ll find out more when we meet next week.

Finished reading: The Fraud by Zadie Smith ๐Ÿ“š A novel that I very much enjoyed. It works at a bunch of different levels – a story about the past, a story about today.

Finished reading: Strong Songs of the Dead by Th Metzger ๐Ÿ“šInterested in Shape Note/Sacred Harp singing? This book of short essays will be so gratifying. A bit of history, a lot of personal recollection, and for me, the sense of a kindred spirit who loves singing these old, dark, hymns.

Finished reading: Lifehouse by Adam Greenfield ๐Ÿ“šExcellent book about local actions we can take to help our communities strengthen in preparation for the coming climate emergency.

Currently reading: The Bear by Andrew Krivak ๐Ÿ“šlibrary book group for December.

Finished reading: On Beauty by Zadie Smith ๐Ÿ“šFun, thought-provoking novel by a present-day master.

Finished reading: In the Matter of Color by A. Leon Higginbotham ๐Ÿ“š Excellent though dense non-fiction about Colonial laws related to slavery. Our country has a foundation of sand, and evil sand at that.
